So, I think I set myself up for failure by calling this blog, Capturing Beauty. I seem to take mostly bug pictures and the bugs I get are kind of creepy looking. I haven’t forgotten about this blog, but I feel a little guilty posting bug pictures after the dead frog pictures that Holly is sick of looking at. :) Oh well. Here are the pictures from this summer….
See the small bug right in the center of this flower!
The last three pictures are flowers from the field behind my house.
We bought a new camera last month. I can’t wait to take it out for an afternoon and take macro shots with it. Maybe after we get rain and plants start growing again.

Life & Death
So, not all my pictures are “beautiful”, but they are still interesting to me. I like to take pictures of animals. Most of it is bugs and other “not beautiful” creatures because that is what’s around my house. Maybe someday I can go back to Hawaii or some other cool place and take pictures of exotic animals.
My husband came across this toad and frog skeleton when he was working in the yard. The toad was still as a rock. We weren’t sure if he was hibernating or dead or just acting dead. After getting the pictures I wanted of him I took a stick and prodded him a bit. I pushed him up from his underside thinking he would jump away or just topple over. To my amusement the toad didn’t bat a lid or move more than what I pushed him. He held the pose, as seen in the second picture, ‘til I prodded him some more. I guess he had enough of my curiosity because he jumped away after I poked him again.
I like comparing the skeletal structures of the dead frog and living toad. Maybe I’ll go back to school and study more biology…….

Blushing Tulips
Last Fall I planted tulip bulbs in the front yard. What a joy they have been this month. I love the pink shades in the white and yellow tulips. It reminds me of a strawberry lemonade.
The picture below was taken right after I watered my plants. I like how the water droplets magnify the texture of the petals looking at it straight on, but then at an angle how those drops reflect what is around them.

Field of Flowers
Not far from my house in a unattractive neighborhood is a little field. I didn’t notice it before until a few weeks ago when it was covered in pink flowers. Every time I drove by I wished I had my camera. I finally remembered last week before all the flowers were spent. As I walked into the flowers I caught a sweet smelling breeze from the groups of little purple flowers. I love that!
I enjoyed watching all the bees going from one flower to another. Their legs and bodies were laden with pollen. It looked like it was hard for them to get around. I started thinking the process of bees pollinating flowers and trees and what an amazing and important part of nature it is. We need the bees. I'm sorry I stepped on the big fat bumble bee and killed it when I was a little girl.
